Still a muppet.

I see Fabrice Muamba has decided to retire from football after his cardiac arrest earlier this year. I wish him well in the future and hope he can go on to have a long and happy life.

Unfortunately he is still thanking god for saving him "I thank God that I am alive" although in fairness he is also thanking the team who saved him, "I thank God that I am alive and I pay tribute once again to the members of the medical team who never gave up on me."

So he is thanking god for saving him but I don't see anywhere that he is thanking god for giving him his arrest in the first place.
The ability of the religious mind to fail to make any connections to reality never fails to amaze me. So we have to assume that it was a devil or some bad fairy that caused the initial collapse.

Bitter and twisted to the end, as befits your name and moniker. You clerly have no understanding of the Christian faith otherwise you would not make such crass comments.

Sorry to disappoint Anonymous, I understand the Christian faith very well. I was brought up in it, I attended church until I was 16 and my mother is still a regular church goer. Do you really not see the irony in thanking god for saving you from a cardiac event which, if he exists, he caused in the first place?

My name was very carefully chosen to reflect my demeanour and proclivities.

OK then, so you are now saying that your mother is a muppet and you used to be one? A bit disingenuous, I think.

Are you really that stupid?

Don't bother with the defence of the inarticulate or the unoriginal on the internet - "it's an ad hominem attack". It isn't, I am asking a question.

Did you read my post dated 22nd April 2012? http://grumpyrn.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/miracle-no-it-was-science-you-muppet.html

I agree with you GrumpyRN. It is fascinating to observe the very selective view of the world that those of faith seem to have.

It comes down to that old question. "If God is all powerful, why does he allow such terrible things to happen in the world? If, on the other hand, he is unable or unwilling to intercede on our behalf, why are people worshipping him and asking for his assistance?"

As a non-believer, this has always interested me.

Victor Meldrew, you are entitled to your opinions. However, it is your dismissive use ofthe term "Muppet" which I find distasteful. At least you are brighter than some of the other medical bloggers who try to be anonymous, unlike "The Ferret Fancier" who stupidly launched a petition using his real name, or "The Jobbing Doctor" who has left so many clues about his location then sent a post to his choir's Facebook page so that he can easily be identified. Never did find out who "Dr Crippen" was though....

"Muppet. Somebody who acts in a way that the speaker considers ignorant or idiotic - 'you're a muppet!' Very friendly kind of tone attached to this word, jocular, affectionate, even. It's much less forceful than, 'idiot' or 'prat' or 'fool'".

Did you read the post I pointed out and the comments afterwards?

Its a similar conundrum as to why so many people work in the compassionate health business yet are more concerned with pay rises and holidays than making sure old folk are treated well (Mr Pink and a few others being notable exceptions).

Blame the management and cuts. Not going to do anything to lose my job. Where else will I get terms and conditions like this without going abroad?

Now where's my holiday and overtime sheet.

It is truely unfortunate that they never stop to wonder why it happened to begin with....sure its good to thank God he's still alive and the team who saved his life but why not wonder why it happened to begin with? was some one trying to tell him some thing? and did he listen or get it? I have been trying to change my habits of late simply cause I know that if I dont I will be having a very big problem and with all the meds Im already on who knows if a team could even save this sorry soul? I for one would be thinking what someone would be trying to tell me if I had a heart attack. then I would try to fix what ever I was doing that I thought needed fixing....I suppose for me it would be give more time to those who need help.
